DEA/MCCANDLESS POLICE PRESCRIPTION DRUG TURN-IN DAY

Saturday, September 29, 2012
10:00am - 2:00pm

Prescription Drug turn-in-day is back by popular demand! Here's your chance to turn in unused or outdated prescription drugs and make sure they are disposed of safely. Northland Library, in cooperation with the Drug Enforcement Agency and the McCandless Police Department, will collect these drugs and make sure of their proper disposal. Bring your prescriptions to meeting room 148-1 on the lower level of the library. The first such event in April was a huge success. We're sure this one will be too!

KNITHOPE: SCARVES FOR THOSE IN NEED

Once again, Northland Library will be a drop-off point for the collection of hand-knit or crocheted scarves for KnitHope. Knithope is a non-profit organization that works with North Hills Community Outreach and the Light of Life Mission to distribute scarves each year to the homeless and others in need in the Pittsburgh area. The scarves should be approximately 60 inches long and 5 inches wide, suitable for a man or woman. Collection boxes will be available on both floors of the library from August 15th through October 15th.

If you enjoy knitting or crocheting, consider making a welcome, warm gift for someone who needs it. Find more information on Knithope’s website: www.knithope.org

Treasure House Fashions: Women Helping Women In Crisis

Monday, September 17 at 7:00pm

In August of 2000, Sally Power founded Treasure House Fashions, a non-profit organization promoting the dignity and self-esteem of women, particularly women in crisis, by providing gently-worn quality clothing.

Tucked away on the ground floor of the Andre Building in Ross Township, this little gem of a store, run by volunteers, works with many agencies throughout Pittsburgh to provide shopping vouchers for women in need, joining efforts to better serve women in our wider community. By volunteering, by donating gently-worn clothing to the store or by shopping there for wonderful bargains, local women are helping women who need assistance.
Join us to hear Sally's story about Treasure House Fashions. Please register for this program online or by calling the adult services reference desk at 412-366-8100 ext. 113
