Mary Cassatt: Pittsburgh's Famous Impressionist

Thursday, September 16 at 7:00 P.M.

Born in Pittsburgh, Mary Cassatt later settled in France, became a member of the French Impressionist movement and began painting scenes of people engaged in ordinary daily activities. Cassatt was an independent woman who had no desire to be a wife or mother, but she became famous for her paintings of peaceful, loving moments shared by mothers and daughters. She played a major role in influencing American collectors to buy Impressionist Art.

During the week of September 13 through 18, Northland Library will host a beautiful traveling display of Mary Cassatt's works and information about this well-loved artist.

On Thursday evening, September 16, at 7:00 p.m., Amanda Zehnder, Associate Curator of Fine Arts at the Carnegie Museum of Art will speak about Mary Cassatt and her wide influence in the world of art.
